The Poison Daughter UK Editions & Indie Preorder Incentive

Sheila Reads and writes

Happy Full Moon!

This Capricorn full moon is here along with a mercury retrograde and Venus moving into Leo. In short, there is a lot happening in the cosmos and we are all feeling it.

I drew the 2 of Wands for our collective reading today which feels like an appropriate card for this midpoint of the year, and also a person attack.

The 2 of Wands comes up when we are presented with multiple pathways to achieve what we want. It's about trusting our intuition and knowing that whichever path we choose, we will end up where we are meant to be.

That said, this can be an uncomfortable energy for some of us. It might feel like we're jumping through hoops to avoid making a decision. It might feel like we start down one path and then double back to take the other.

There is some inherent turmoil here because leading with passion doesn't prohibit us from confronting difficult choices. Sometimes this pursuit forces us to compromise in areas that we know we shouldn't, and the 2 of Wands reminds us to think about what trades we are making and whether they're worth it.

Wishing you a pleasant lunation and enjoy my trip across the pond.

UK Editions:

I am so excited to finally reveal the UK standard edition of The Poison Daughter. This foil case with art of the seven divine designed by my lovely assistant, Ana (@Book_boyfriend_huntress), and it will only be available in the first edition of the book. The endpapers feature illustrated character art by Jaqueline Florencio and you can see them in the post here.

I'm also thrilled to share that Waterstones will be doing a gorgeous edition of TPD featuring the same case design and endpapers, but with the gorgeous dustjacket and edges seen here:

The Waterstones stock is EXTREMELY limited and was more than 60% sold out in the first two days after the reveal. I'm waiting for an update from my publisher, but I expect it to sell out VERY soon. Please don't hesitate to order.

Australia/New Zealand I've had some questions about whether the hardcover will be available in Australia and New Zealand and my publisher had confirmed that it will. Unfortunately I don't have more details on which version yet. You can preorder those editions here.

I'm expecting that there will be an indie version of the UK edition with different edges announced this week, and one other special edition for the market that I'm hoping will be announced in July. Stay tuned.

TPD Tour Update:

I'm blown away by the response to my first tour. The Bookish Shop sold out in the first two hours, and they have very limited signing line only tickets left.(you can buy here). Burning Pages is also sold out, but you can get signing line only tickets here. Hardcovers has moved the event to a theater and added tickets. The rest of the venues are getting up there in ticket sales as well, so please don't delay if you're hoping to attend. I am so excited to see you all.

A reminder that the traditionally published edition of The Poison Daughter is up for preorder. I know, I know! I've barely even mentioned it. But in all seriousness, please do preorder if you are looking to buy the new fancy edition. Only the first print run will include all of these features. (Future editions will not have the edges etc).

I also announced the indie bookstore preorder incentive today. You'll receive some beautiful art and a signed bookplate. Click the image below to find participating bookstore and order.

If you need additional motivation to preorder, my publisher Zando/Slowburn is offering a vellum page overlay of this amazing art by Bryan Camargo for hardcover preorders while supplies last. Just fill out this form to get yours.

You might be a last minute, deadline-driven ADHD friend like me, so let me tell you what I told me when I recently missed out on a fancy first edition, order early. There's no guarantee that this print run won't sell out quickly and if too many preorders come at the last minute, you might not even be able to find the book in store on release day (and you'll miss out on this art).

This has been a struggle for publishers recently as readers have consistently waited until the very last minute to order. Right now, there's still time to adjust the print run numbers if needed. Closer to release, we won't have that luxury.

Preorder the US/Canada Deluxe hardcover.

New HenLow Art:

I shared some beautiful new artwork from Elaine of @pixilaine. I think she captured their attitudes quite well and I love the colors in this one so much. I am eager to share another piece she did of a different TPD duo very soon.

What I'm Writing:

Intermission - A Quick Travel Break

I just got back from London where I got to have some cocktails and sweat across the city with the woman, the myth, the Legend of Thezmarr herself, Miss Helen Scheuerer.

During this trip we discovered our mutual love for French 75s, our mutual disdain for London heatwaves and traffic, and our shared favorite verbal stim of "saying 10 out of 10." We also did a live on the wayward instagram, told the social media team that both of our favorite word is "fuck" (apologies to Wayward's social media manager, Georgia, who has to edit those clips), and got to have lunch with our editors at Wayward Txf and my lovely UK agent, Mads, before doing a little toast to our books in the Penguin UK offices.

Then we spent the following day walking five miles across a steamy central London to drop ARCs at a few bookstores.

Here we are at the first stop of the day, holding our books in front of the front door of Waterstones like two kids about to be sent off to our first day of school.

Here's Helen when I acted like a proud mom and made her pose with her most recent release at Forbidden Planet...

And then again, when they had her sign all of their stock of her books.

Major props to our lovely publicist, Emma, for coordinating everything and doing all the heavy lifting for our book walk. We had a great time, though, admittedly we were happy to be out of the heat and into the Heated Rivalry by the end. You can see the joy on our faces outside of the last stop at Saucy Books, Shane Hollander included.

It was so lovely to meet my team across the pond and meet some booksellers (and a few readers.) Most of all it was lovely to get to hug Helen after three years of friendship and toast to all our successes over the past year while making aggressive eye-contact.

I'm working on a short video vlog of my trip to come (hopefully) in my next email.

Full Moon in Capricorn - This full moon asks us to be patient with the process of assessing our choices. Instead of jumping into action, try to sit in the discomfort and find some stillness. See what comes to you in the quiet.

Take a few grounding breaths and choose the card you feel most drawn to.

Then, scroll down for the reading reveal.

In the Media:

NEW!!! Tongue in Cheek Podcast - This was such a deep discussion about the themes in TPD, safe places to be angry, and finding healing in unconventional relationships. I absolutely loved

Apple Podcasts - Spotify

Book Club After Dark - I had a great time talking to these ladies and we went into some of the heavier themes in The Poison Daughter.

Apple Podcasts - Spotify

Goblin's Gonna Yap - This was such a fun chat about The Poison Daughter, indie to trad transitions, and quite a few other side quests. In short, I understood the assignment and yapped my heart out.

Apple Podcasts - Spotify

The Other Side of the Page Podcast - We chatted about the breakout success of The Poison Daughter, all things going indie to trad, chronic illness representation, and more! My favorite part was picking songs for the characters since I am wholeheartedly a song vibes writer.

Apple Podcasts - Spotify

Chapter One Podcast - These ladies did a read along discussion over the past few weeks, which culminated in a chat where I answered all of their burning questions about this world, Harlow, and Henry, and the twists that had them reeling.

Apple Podcasts - Spotify

Book Bits & Chill Podcast - I had the best time chatting with Cassie and Emily (who record live from their beds in pjs) about all things Poison Daughter. There are some light spoilers in here but we give a warning before we get into the most spoilery content. This is a great episode for anyone who isn't related to me (hi mom.)

Apple Podcasts - Spotify

Storybeast Podcast - I was a guest on Story Beast, which is one of my favorite bookish pods. What I love about this show is that they talk so much about the creative journey of writing a book. I love hearing other authors talk about craft, but as we all know, I also just love to yap about it myself.

Apple Podcasts - Spotify

The Broke Book Girls Podcast - I had a lovely chat about The Lost God Series and The Poison Daughter with Anne and Bree of the Broke Book Girls Podcast last week. It will air tomorrow/today, depending on where you are in the world.

Apple Podcasts - Spotify

3 of Coins - You have enough talent and resilience to make any path forward work, if you would only trust yourself. Stop outsourcing wisdom to other people. The only one who can truly answer your questions is you. You have so much wisdom. Don't allow all the other opinions down out your voice.

3 of Cups - Slow down and take some time to celebrate your wins. If you find yourself reaching one achievement and immediately looking for the next challenge, you need to pause and allow for joy. If it doesn't come naturally, ask a friend or loved one to hold you accountable to basking in your achievements.

5 of Wands - The most potent conflict for you at the moment is internal. Whatever competing passions are making it hard to find the way forward, know that you will figure it out with time. Don't force a decision to move out of the discomfort. Instead, allow yourself to imagine yourself following each path and see what that pretending clarifies.

I hope your card was resonant.

THE POISON DAUGHTER Q&A:

Q. When will the TPD audiobook be out?

A. It's coming out along with the new hardcover on August 18, 2026 in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. The German translation audiobook will release September 21, 2026.

In the meantime, you can find my entire backlist on audio with some truly phenomenal narrators.

Q. Are you going on tour an/or to any events this year?

A. You can also find me at Miss Willa's Ever After in WV in September and in Arizona in December at Snowed In. As for a tour, you'll have to stay tuned.

Q. Will there be any special editions of TPD?

A. Yes. The cat is out of the bag on this STUNNING edition from Coveted Cover for their June Box. There will also be two additional preorders SEs that I'm sworn to secrecy about. I loathe keeping my own secrets, but I'm afraid I must for now. I promise I will share loudly and repeatedly as soon as I'm permitted.

Q. Do you offer signed copies?

A. I don't at the present moment. Unfortunately, I don't have time to manage fulfillment. If I'm ever able to offer signed copies in the future, and this newsletter will be the first place to hear about it. I'm always happy to sign yours copies from home if you're coming to an event I'm attending.

Q. I loved TPD. What should I read next from your backlist?

A. If you are mourning the end of TPD and wondering what to do next, I made an Instagram for exactly this purpose and it will help you decide where to go in my backlist.

Q. What's the best way to get more people to read TPD?

A. There are a few things you can do to help the book grow.

First of all, I am forever shamelessly asking for reviews because they are the metric most of the publishing industry uses to gauge readership. I would be very grateful if you would leave a quick one or two-line review for my books on Amazon and Goodreads if you haven't already done so. You can copy the review from one platform to another.

Second, you can request a physical copy of TPD at your local library. Not only does this help me, it also helps local readers find a new romantasy read, and provides evidence that your librarians can use to prove that local readers are using their services. Most libraries have a digital or physical form you can fill out. Your local librarian would probably be thrilled to point you in the direction of it.

Finally, you can recommend the book to your reader friends, share it in Facebook reader groups, tell your local bookstore to stock it, or post about it on social media.

Every little bit counts, and I'm so grateful for your support.
