The Poison Daughter Audiobook Narrators & New Moon in Taurus

Sheila Reads and writes

Happy New Moon!

I hope you're resting and enjoying the fruits of your labor. I'm back from Atlanta and things are really heating up for The Poison Daughter Rerelease. I'm so impatient to share with all of you, but suffice it to say, there's a lot going on in the background to prep and I'll have some exciting things to share in the coming weeks.

For now, let's go right into the new moon reading since today's card jumped right out of my deck. The Queen of Cups flew out of the deck immediately. I feel like this one has popped up a lot in our readings for the past year so this is a theme we must keep returning to.

The message here is really about leading with how you want to feel. This new moon is almost a mini-reset for our year. 4.5 months into the year, we have a chance to check in on how we're tracking against our hopes for the year.

This is less about glorifying constant growth and progress, than simply noticing if we're being true to ourselves. Sometimes job pressures, family life, or health can crowd out the time we have to pour into ourselves. Maybe it feels disloyal to someone you love, to make time for yourself. Maybe moving toward what you really want means releasing something you aren't yet ready to part with.

There are many reasons to take this moment to check in with ourselves and the Queen of Cups is a reminder to lead with our hearts. Our emotions are a major signal of how harmonious and content we're feeling.

Taurus energy offers us grounding and gentleness to really feel in to our bodies. What is the most prevalent emotion in your daily life? How do you want to shift that? What would help you accomplish such a change?

Wishing you a pleasant lunation.

TPD Updates & Narrator Reveal:

The news is out! I'm thrilled that The Poison Daughter will be narrated by Laura Horowitz and Anthony Palmini. I just know that they are going to do an amazing job with Harlow and Henry and I'm so excited to hear it. You can catch a glimpse of Laura's narration and great sense of humor on her instagram, and Anthony was just featured in an NPR article.

The audiobook will be in duet format and it will publish on August 18, 2026 in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand alongside the deluxe hardcovers. All of these markets will have the same narrators.

A reminder that the new US/Canada Deluxe hardcover from Slowburn, with sprayed edges and the beautiful Harlow art case cover, is a limited edition. I know we all like to procrastinate until the very last minute, but it will only be available on the first print run, so I HIGHLY recommend preordering early to make sure you get it.

I've received a lot of questions about the specs for the UK/Australia/New Zealand Editions, we are finalizing the final details now and I'm absolutely buzzing with excitement to share. I promise I will show you as soon as I can. You can preorder those editions here.

A reminder that wherever you preorder from, you should hold on to your receipt. I should have more details on preorder incentives very soon.

While the print copies of The Poison Daughter have come down, the ebook continues to hold its own. TPD officially hit the 90 day mark as a bestseller. Unbelievable! Thank you all so much for continuing to share it with your friends.

What I'm Writing:

BALLAD OF THE HEARTLESS - Drafting

In my last newsletter I was about to see Florence and the Machine, and let me tell you, she is a goddess! Look at her:

Liz and I both cried. Florence was a revelation. 101/10 recommend seeing her live. It was everything I hoped it would be and more, and a great reminder of how important it is to refill your creative well.

I've been back at it with Ballad of the Heartless since I got home. Things are coming along, though never at the pace that I'd like.

One thing that I run into a lot, particularly when it comes to first drafts, is that I can't stop myself from trying to perfect the layers of the story. As rational as I am and for as many times as I've worked through a first draft, I still cannot fully shake the perfectionism.

I know now that it's driven by a desire to be efficient. So now it's just a matter of reminding myself that MY most efficient process involves several layers of editing. Hoping to wrap this book up in the next few weeks.

In the meantime, you have some other things to look forward to. I wrapped up another exclusive bonus chapter for one of The Poison Daughter rereleases and that was fun. I can't say anything about it yet except that it's in Henry's POV and I broke my record for the number of times using the P word in one chapter.

You can read my indie TPD Bonus chapter here, unless you are related to me, in which case, there is no bonus chapter 🫣

(Bonus chapters for all of my books are linked at the bottom of these newsletters).

New Moon in Taurus - This new moon asks us to reflect on the first part of the year to see what progress we've made toward our goals. It's time to take stock of how our priorities may have shifted, and to refocus on what will bring us the greatest sense of contentment. Think about how you want to feel at the end of the year.

Take a few grounding breaths and choose the card you feel most drawn to.

Then, scroll down for the reading reveal.

For the TBR Stack:

Tides of Memory by Laura A. Blake (The Shattered Sky Saga Book 2)- Since this is the second book in the series and I don't want to spoil anything I'll just share a bit about book one: Brida Larrow has no right to be among the Fae Courts, but she’s willing to risk everything to save her dying father. Armed with a forged invitation and a fierce determination, she enters the treacherous Fae Trials, a contest crafted to break even the strongest Fae. One misstep, and the truth of her identity could be her undoingβ€”and cost her the cure she so desperately needs.

Cast from the Dark by Asher Payne- When a vicious pirate captain purchases Rohan as entertainment for his crew, he doesn't know she's an elite assassin. She plays into her part until one night she has the chance to escape into the waiting arms of the pirate captain's ex-best friend. This has enemies-to-lovers, feminine rage, and found family. What more could you want? Click the cover below to check it out.

The Chariot- Focus on the wins that have come quickly and easily. These are the things that will remind you where you're most aligned with you desires and how to continue to lead from a heart-centered place. Ignore the external voices and opinions that make you doubt yourself. It's time to sharpen your attention to you own unique aspirations.

4 of Cups - You may be tempted to accept something that is close to what you want, but not quite right. In every choice we will be given the opportunity to settle, but this new moon asks you to push out of your comfort zone and hold to what you really want. Just because you have't received it so far, doesn't mean you never will. Keep the faith.

2 of Swords - If you're plagued by indecision, it's time to rework your boundaries. When you let too many external voices into your decision making process you lose touch with what you really want and why. This new moon is the time to clear out the noise and get grounded. The conviction will come when you draw your attention inward.

I hope your card was resonant.

In the Media:

Goblin's Gonna Yap - This was such a fun chat about The Poison Daughter, indie to trad transitions, and quite a few other side quests. In short, I understood the assignment and yapped my heart out.

Apple Podcasts - Spotify

The Other Side of the Page Podcast - We chatted about the breakout success of The Poison Daughter, all things going indie to trad, chronic illness representation, and more! My favorite part was picking songs for the characters since I am wholeheartedly a song vibes writer.

Chapter One Podcast - These ladies did a read along discussion over the past few weeks, which culminated in a chat where I answered all of their burning questions about this world, Harlow, and Henry, and the twists that had them reeling.

Apple Podcasts - Spotify

Book Bits & Chill Podcast - I had the best time chatting with Cassie and Emily (who record live from their beds in pjs) about all things Poison Daughter. There are some light spoilers in here but we give a warning before we get into the most spoilery content. This is a great episode for anyone who isn't related to me (hi mom.)

Apple Podcasts - Spotify

Storybeast Podcast - I was a guest on Story Beast, which is one of my favorite bookish pods. What I love about this show is that they talk so much about the creative journey of writing a book. I love hearing other authors talk about craft, but as we all know, I also just love to yap about it myself.

The Broke Book Girls Podcast - I had a lovely chat about The Lost God Series and The Poison Daughter with Anne and Bree of the Broke Book Girls Podcast last week. It will air tomorrow/today, depending on where you are in the world.

THE POISON DAUGHTER Q&A:

Q. When will the TPD audiobook be out?

A. It's coming out along with the new hardcover on August 18, 2026.

In the meantime, you can find my entire backlist on audio with some truly phenomenal narrators.

Q. Will there be any special editions of TPD?

A. Yes. I know how much a special edition is coveted, so I've covered all my bases, trying to get TPD as many special edition opportunities as possible. Right now, there is one upcoming subscription box that I've hinted at, as well as a two preorders that I'm sworn to secrecy about. I loathe keeping my own secrets, but I'm afraid I must for now. I promise I will share loudly and repeatedly as soon as I'm permitted.

Q. Do you offer signed copies?

A. I don't at the present moment. Unfortunately, I don't have time to manage fulfillment. I would like to be able to offer signed copies in the future, and this newsletter will be the first place to hear about it.

Q. I loved TPD. What should I read next from your backlist?

A. If you are mourning the end of TPD and wondering what to do next, I made an Instagram for exactly this purpose and it will help you decide where to go in my backlist.

Q. What's the best way to get more people to read TPD?

A. There are a few things you can do to help the book grow.

First of all, I am forever shamelessly asking for reviews because they are the metric most of the publishing industry uses to gauge readership. I would be very grateful if you would leave a quick one or two-line review for my books on Amazon and Goodreads if you haven't already done so. You can copy the review from one platform to another.

Second, you can request a physical copy of TPD at your local library. Not only does this help me, it also helps local readers find a new romantasy read, and provides evidence that your librarians can use to prove that local readers are using their services. Most libraries have a digital or physical form you can fill out. Your local librarian would probably be thrilled to point you in the direction of it.

Finally, you can recommend the book to your reader friends, share it in Facebook reader groups, tell your local bookstore to stock it, or post about it on social media.

Every little bit counts, and I'm so grateful for your support.

Sheila Reads and writes Happy Full Moon! Coming in hot early this Friday morning. Not to brag, but I'm going to be out of office for the next 24 hours, spending Beltane with Florence and the Machine. (Hello Atlanta! I am in you.) I did the writing update section of this newsletter first, but I had to laugh when I drew the 4 of Swords for our collective reading as well. It feels like we're working with a theme here. Good ol' Scorpio energy, it's as subtle as a sledgehammer. The 4 of Swords...
