Happy Full Moon!
I hope this blue moon is treating you well.
This full moon in adventurous Sagittarius authorize the opportunity to be bold. I drew the 2 of Wands for our collective reading. This card tends to pop up when we need to hold both a delusional vision for our future and the discernment to know what we can do to work toward it. When we lead with that inspired energy, things tend to move much more quickly.
The 2 of Wands is the foundation for building our internal fire. It's the first two sticks we rub together to try to catch fire. It's the smallest version of a new idea that you carefully tend to alone before ever sharing it with the world.
It's a perfect card for a Sagittarius blue moon, because it's the energy that inspires us to dream of things well outside our own limiting beliefs, or the roles other people in our lives expect us to play. Sagittarius is the scholar, the traveler, the curious adventurer who sees a reward in experimenting and getting outside of our comfort zone.
This energy only comes once in a blue moon (get it? lol). If you can, use this moon to push yourself a little out of your comfort zone and a little closer to something exhilarating.
Enjoy this blue moon!
Wishing you a pleasant lunation.

TPD Updates & Narrator Reveal:
I don't know if you guys know this, but the traditionally published edition of The Poison Daughter is currently up for preorder. I know, I know! I've barely even mentioned it.
But in all seriousness, please do preorder if you are looking to buy the new fancy edition. Only the first print run will include all of these features. (Future editions will not have the edges etc).
If you need additional motivation to preorder, my publisher Zando/Slowburn is offering a vellum page overlay of this amazing art by Bryan Camargo for hardcover preorders while supplies last.
You might be a last minute, deadline-driven ADHD friend like me, so let me tell you what I told me when I recently missed out on a fancy first edition, order early. There's no guarantee that this print run won't sell out quickly and if too many preorders come at the last minute, you might not even be able to find the book in store on release day (and you'll miss out on this art).
This has been a struggle for publishers recently as readers have consistently waited until the very last minute to order. Right now, there's still time to adjust the print run numbers if needed. Closer to release, we won't have that luxury.
UK/Australia/New Zealand Editions are coming. I should have details in my next newsletter. We are finalizing the final details now and I'm absolutely buzzing with excitement to share. I promise I will show you as soon as I can. You can preorder those editions here.
International update:
Great News for my German readers! My publisher Penguin Verlag has decided to join us in a Global launch week by releasing the German edition of The Poison Daughter on August 19, 2026. I don't have the full specs for this edition yet, but what I can tell you is that what I've seen so far is stunning. Peep the cover and edges below and click the cover to order.
yes, it's common for the German edition to keep the english title
Backlist News:
Today is the last day to get the ebook of A Legacy of Stars, my standalone rivals to lovers spinoff from The Lost God Series for just $2.49. This is a true standalone in that you will understand everything in the story without having read The Lost God Series first. However, it is a second generation story that takes place 20 years after the original story with some character overlap, so it may spoil some plot points in the OG series.
The Lost God Art Drop:
Speaking of The Lost God Series, I had some new art commissioned of Rainer, Cecilia, and Xander from the incredible @pangolin2b and I am so in love with it. I made afunny little post with a few more details here, but if you haven't met this trio yet, The Lost God series is a complete epic romantasy series about a memory witch and her guardian who set out on a quest unleash an ancient magic from a series of caves that form a grimoire in the language of memory. You can read it on KU, paperback, hardcover (with secret case design), or on audio in multi POV.
Rainer, Cece, & Xander
What I'm Writing:
BALLAD OF THE HEARTLESS - Drafting
Still chipping away at this draft. As an indie author I am pretty accustomed to tradeoffs. When you're the author, the marketer, the production team, and the business manager you're forced to reckon with the fact that you're always compromising somewhere. I think I had this idea in my head that leaving my corporate day job would mean I'd have a ton more time to write. But I know better. More time freed up doesn't mean I'll have more brain power to use in that time.
Since The Poison Daughter started going viral in January, I've been constantly reminded of how much non-writing work there is in publishing. This is only exacerbated by the fact that traditional publishing requires making decisions by committee, and that sucks up even more time.
It's not the first time I've struggled with the balance between creative and business time. It's been an ongoing challenge since I started publishing. Now I have seven books out, plus one re-releasing, and one new indie release coming later this year. I've always been juggling but there are a a lot more balls in the air these days.
Add to that the terribly timed Adderall shortage, and I have really been tested these last few weeks. I have a book to write and I'm determined to get it drafted. I have a deadline in mind, and I really want to hit it, but I'm focused on writing something I'm proud of first and foremost.
This new pace is much slower than I'm used to and trying to be patient with myself as I go. Good things take time.
In the meantime, I hit a personal publishing milestone this month that was unimaginable just a few months ago. I continue to be blown away by all of your love and support, for TPD and my backlist. I made sure to sit with that gratitude and actually celebrate with some champagne. Thank you for continuing to read and share my books.
three cards from the threads of fate tarot face down on a wood surface
Full Moon in Sagittarius - This blue moon in Sagittarius asks us to reflect on the duality of achievement. So often we fear the very thing we want most. Our brains are wired to keep us in familiar patterns and growth is scary. Sagittarius is the archer, and it delivers the energy we need to aim true as we bravery pursue our most heartfelt desires.
Take a few grounding breaths and choose the card you feel most drawn to.
Then, scroll down for the reading reveal.
For the TBR Stack:
Daughter of the Cursed Moon by AD Dalley- Daughter of the Cursed Moon is a high-tension, slow burn that blends romantasy with Avatar: The Last Airbender in this exciting new novel. It's perfect for readers who love shadow mommies, epic quests, found family, and slow burn romance.
Fury Bound by Sable Sorenson- I just finished Dire Bound last week, so I'm super excited to jump into book two. Some spoilers for book 2 here - A reluctant queen, with the help of her direwolf, battles inner demons and an invading army. Her bond with a scarred alpha warrior becomes the only anchor as allies defect and ancient magic corrupts everything she loves.
The Sun- This full moon will shine light on the areas if your life where you've been afraid to show off. This is your chance to honor your hard work, and to state out loud what you want for your future. Don't be embarrassed of your excitement. You deserve to feel the joy of pursuit.
8 of Cups -You've known for a while that it's time to move on, but you weren't ready to release the old stories you tell about yourself. It's okay if your growth comes with a side of grief. Accepting new goals and visions for yourself, means letting go of less aligned plans. It's normal to mourn the loss of what's familiar.
9 of Coins - Bask in the feeling of being stable and grounded. Focus on the areas of your life that make you feel the most accomplished. Now is a good time for self care in whatever form you prefer, and stop acting like you need to earn the time to take care of yourself.
I hope your card was resonant.
In the Media:
NEW!!! - Book Club After Dark - I had a great time talking to these ladies and we went into some of the heavier themes in The Poison Daughter.
Goblin's Gonna Yap - This was such a fun chat about The Poison Daughter, indie to trad transitions, and quite a few other side quests. In short, I understood the assignment and yapped my heart out.
The Other Side of the Page Podcast - We chatted about the breakout success of The Poison Daughter, all things going indie to trad, chronic illness representation, and more! My favorite part was picking songs for the characters since I am wholeheartedly a song vibes writer.
Chapter One Podcast - These ladies did a read along discussion over the past few weeks, which culminated in a chat where I answered all of their burning questions about this world, Harlow, and Henry, and the twists that had them reeling.
Book Bits & Chill Podcast - I had the best time chatting with Cassie and Emily (who record live from their beds in pjs) about all things Poison Daughter. There are some light spoilers in here but we give a warning before we get into the most spoilery content. This is a great episode for anyone who isn't related to me (hi mom.)
Storybeast Podcast - I was a guest on Story Beast, which is one of my favorite bookish pods. What I love about this show is that they talk so much about the creative journey of writing a book. I love hearing other authors talk about craft, but as we all know, I also just love to yap about it myself.
The Broke Book Girls Podcast - I had a lovely chat about The Lost God Series and The Poison Daughter with Anne and Bree of the Broke Book Girls Podcast last week. It will air tomorrow/today, depending on where you are in the world.
A. It's coming out along with the new hardcover on August 18, 2026.
In the meantime, you can find my entire backlist on audio with some truly phenomenal narrators.
Q. Are you going on tour an/or to any events this year?
A. I'll be at Imaginarium Book Festival this week. You can also find me at Miss Willa's Ever After in WV in September and in Arizona in December at Snowed In. As for a tour, you'll have to stay tuned.
Q. Will there be any special editions of TPD?
A. Yes. The cat is out of the bag on this STUNNING edition from Coveted Cover for their June Box. There will also be two additional preorders SEs that I'm sworn to secrecy about. I loathe keeping my own secrets, but I'm afraid I must for now. I promise I will share loudly and repeatedly as soon as I'm permitted.
Q. Do you offer signed copies?
A. I don't at the present moment. Unfortunately, I don't have time to manage fulfillment. If I'm ever able to offer signed copies in the future, and this newsletter will be the first place to hear about it. I'm always happy to sign yours copies from home if you're coming to an event I'm attending.
Q. I loved TPD. What should I read next from your backlist?
Q. What's the best way to get more people to read TPD?
A. There are a few things you can do to help the book grow.
First of all, I am forever shamelessly asking for reviews because they are the metric most of the publishing industry uses to gauge readership. I would be very grateful if you would leave a quick one or two-line review for my books on Amazon and Goodreads if you haven't already done so. You can copy the review from one platform to another.
Second, you can request a physical copy of TPD at your local library. Not only does this help me, it also helps local readers find a new romantasy read, and provides evidence that your librarians can use to prove that local readers are using their services. Most libraries have a digital or physical form you can fill out. Your local librarian would probably be thrilled to point you in the direction of it.
Finally, you can recommend the book to your reader friends, share it in Facebook reader groups, tell your local bookstore to stock it, or post about it on social media.
Every little bit counts, and I'm so grateful for your support.

Sheila Reads and writes Happy Full Moon! Coming in hot early this Friday morning. Not to brag, but I'm going to be out of office for the next 24 hours, spending Beltane with Florence and the Machine. (Hello Atlanta! I am in you.) I did the writing update section of this newsletter first, but I had to laugh when I drew the 4 of Swords for our collective reading as well. It feels like we're working with a theme here. Good ol' Scorpio energy, it's as subtle as a sledgehammer. The 4 of Swords...
