Celebrating this full moon in Libra with some very exciting news!
Where in the world is Harlow Carrenwell?
The answer is: EVERYWHERE!!
I am thrilled to finally be able to say that THE POISON DAUGHTER has been picked up by publishers in the US, UK & Territories, and sixteen other markets around the world!!!
Read about the deal in a PEOPLE Magazine exclusive here:
Phew! It feels good to finally share after two months of waiting. You can see the full details and list of translation in the Publisher's Marketplace announcement below:
Despite the date on the announcement, I assure you this is not an April Fools joke.
I'm so glad that I was able to hold on to my North American ebook rights and still sell Print and Audio Rights to Slowburn. In the UK & Territories, I sold print, audio, and ebook to Wayward TxF. Looking at it all together is pretty wild.
If you lost count, that's deals in all of the English speaking markets as well as an astonishing 16 translations. I am thrilled and also tired.
So what does this mean?
Well, as you all know from my last email, it means that in the North American Market the self-published hardcover and paperback versions of TPD have been retired. They will be replaced by a brand new hardcover edition from Slowburn, with sprayed edges, and a brand new exclusive bonus chapter on August 18, 2026. The audiobook will be simultaneously released with this new edition.
In the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, the print editions are in the process of coming down, and will be replaced by beautiful new editions from my the Wayward TxF team, which includes a beautiful limited first edition print run.
The ebook will be coming off of Kindle Unlimited in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, but it will remain available for purchase until the hardcover rerelease.
I know this down time is not ideal, but I am thrilled that both Slowburn and Wayward TxF are willing to turn around the re-release on such a quick timeline. If you can't wait, you can always grab the ebook now.
The content of the book will remain the same, but the formatting will be updated. In the next few weeks I will have some updates about the preorder campaign and any associated goodies.
I will get more into my feelings in the Writing Update section below, but for now, you can preorder the US Edition here or the UK Edition here.
I know today was a departure from our usual full moon and new moon email

TPD is a 3x USA Today Bestseller
The Poison Daughter made the USA Today Bestseller for a third time at #124 yesterday. A huge thank you to everyone who shared about the indie editions coming down and to all of the indie booksellers who stocked the book over the past few weeks or had it as their book club pick. It's remains the #1 Amazon bestseller in Dark Fantasy Horror for the sixth week in a row.
In other exciting stats news...TPD has surpassed 100 million Kindle Unlimited page reads, 39,000 Goodreads reviews and 19,000 Amazon reviews. I am overwhelmed by the reception to this book.
I'm so grateful to everyone who has continued to share the book with friends and fellow readers. I'm truly living the dream.
What I'm Writing:
We made it! Good job, Sheila! You kept a very exciting secret for two whole months. *high fives self*
I'm very grateful that my publishers have been willing to work on such a swift republishing timeline to limit how long the hardcover is out of print. It's a little terrifying to pull the print books down when they've been in such high demand, but I keep reminding myself that these deals will make TPD more accessible to readers all over the world.
The past two months have been quite a whirlwind. Despite the fact that I've had weeks to think about what I would say to all of you now. I'm still at a bit of a loss.
I have been writing seriously for five years and publishing for three, but the idea my book on bookstore shelves has been with me since I first fell in love with reading through my parents nightly bedtime stories.
It's hard to believe that I started with Goosebumps Fanfic (i was ahead of my time) when I was eight and now we are here. I like to think that I've grown as a writer since then, though I'm proud that I've maintained the spooky vibes. I fear both my artwork, special reasoning, and spelling have not improved much though:
if you don't know Goosebumps, congratulations you're young
Joking aside, I'm so proud that this book has been the one to break through and land on so many indie bookstore shelves over the past few months. I didn't know if I would be able to do that without a traditional publishing deal and the distribution network that comes with it. It's astonishing that more than 100,000 of you have read this book already. That is a staggering number for an indie author. I can't imagine how many new readers this story will be able to reach going forward.
While these deals are a massive win for me, the first victory was simply writing The Poison Daughter. The next was having the courage to publish it. Watching it grow over the past six months has been absolutely remarkable, and beyond my wildest expectations.
I write every book for myself first and that is part of the reason I'm so pleased to hold on to the ebook rights. I couldn't imagine not owning at least a part of such a personal book. But I don't know how to write any other way. Wisdom has taught me that if I don't love a story, I won't be able to get through the roughly 400 rereads to edit it, and I certainly won't be able to pitch it to readers FOREVER.
The dream is that readers will feel the same way—that they will carry it with them the way I've carried it with me the last three years.
All of you have shown up for this book in a big way. Thank you for the unhinged reactions and the kind messages. I've never received so many of them and it's such an honor. I save every one and those are the messages I return to on hard days.
This section may not make sense, because admittedly, I'm as exhausted as I am excited.
So I will leave you all with this: Thank you for loving this story and my knife-edged muderess as much as I do. I hope you'll stick with me through the relaunch and beyond for more nightmare women who are no man's peace.
For the TBR Stack:
Ballad of Whispers (The Sunchosen Chronicles #1) by KB Elizabeth - Considered a traitor to the Divine after escaping the Bronze Palace as a child, Iris Virlana knows maintaining her new life as an apothecary apprentice to the woman who saved her relies on remaining hidden. But when a life debt forces her to work with an icy prince to uncover answers about a plague ravaging both realms-Iris must navigate maintaining the ruse of who she is, desperately searching for a cure, and a kingdom rife with political scheming.
In the Media:
NEW!!! - Book Bits & Chill Podcast - I had the best time chatting with Cassie and Emily (who record live from their beds in pjs) about all things Poison Daughter. There are some light spoilers in here but we give a warning before we get into the most spoilery content. This is a great episode for anyone who isn't related to me (hi mom.)
Storybeast Podcast - I was a guest on Story Beast, which is one of my favorite bookish pods. What I love about this show is that they talk so much about the creative journey of writing a book. I love hearing other authors talk about craft, but as we all know, I also just love to yap about it myself.
The Broke Book Girls Podcast - I had a lovely chat about The Lost God Series and The Poison Daughter with Anne and Bree of the Broke Book Girls Podcast last week. It will air tomorrow/today, depending on where you are in the world.
I'm so excited to announce a new line of TPD merch with Jaimee from @thtgrlreads and I fear I am obsessed! Click the image below to see all the new designs.
You can also shop Polich Co's TPD merch. Click the image below to check out the collection of stickers, bookmarks, t-shirts, and sweatshirts.
THE POISON DAUGHTER Q&A:
Q. Can I have a physical ARC of Advance Listener Copy?
A. All ARCs/Galleys and advance listener copies will be managed through my publisher Zando/Slowburn, so that will be up to them.
Q. Will there be any special editions of TPD?
A. Yes. I know how much a special edition is coveted, so I've coveredall my bases, trying to get TPD as many special edition opportunities as possible. Right now, there is one upcoming subscription box that I've hinted at, as well as a two preorders that I'm sworn to secrecy about. I loathe keeping my own secrets, but I'm afraid I must for now. I promise I will share loudly and repeatedly as soon as I'm permitted.
Q. I loved TPD. What should I read next from your backlist?
Q. What's the best way to get more people to read TPD?
A. There are a few things you can do to help the book grow.
First of all, I am forever shamelessly asking for reviews because they are the metric most of the publishing industry uses to gauge readership. I would be very grateful if you would leave a quick one or two-line review for my books on Amazon and Goodreads if you haven't already done so. You can copy the review from one platform to another.
Second, you can preorder the new traditionally published version of the book, or simply share my posts about the new editions. Publishers and retailers use preorders as the marker of how many copies to print and order. The reason we push preorders so hard is that it sends a strong message to retailers to stock enough books so that no one is disappointed when the can't find it in store on release day. I always encourage you to support your local indie bookstores and we will be launching a campaign with preorder goodies soon.
Every little bit counts, and I'm so grateful for your support.
